Winifred Abochi and Eunice Adjetey president and secretary respectively, of the Africa Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of science and Technology, have been asked to step aside following investigations into alleged embezzlement of GHC 150,000 Ghana National Petroleum Corporation sponsorship money which was supposed to be used for the 50th anniversary celebrations of the hall.
The sponsorship package, which was worked on, by the student executives and the authorities to be used to secure ceiling fans and other projects for the hall was part of plans for the celebrations.
The two are alleged to have opened fake accounts for the hall without the knowledge of the school administrative and cashed out the money when GNPC gave out the cheque.
Speaking on the issue, Mr. Yeboah Kwabena, the public relations officer of the University explained that the school has set up a committee to look into the situation.
Winifred Abotsi earlier on declared her intentions to run for president for the students’ representative council this year. Its however unclear if she will still be able to push through with her ambitions.
However, Eunice Adjetey who wants to contest for president of Africa hall has been refused vetting on two occasions on grounds of the alleged illegal misconduct.
